The Main Army that I  play   in Flames of War  is the    German 2.SS Panzerdivision  so in  this  post and many more I will go through the history and data of each unit  starting  with the Panzer IV which is the main core vehicle  of the Panzercompany.

In my 2000 pts army I have 6no Panzers  and I’m very happy with the way they perform.

* Schurzen are thin armoured plates that are welded to the sides of the the Panzer this protects them from infantry anti-tank weapons , like anti tank rifles and bazookas*

The only German tank to remain in service throughout WW2 was the study Panzer IV; by some 1945 some 9000 have been produced .This medium tank- weighing roughly 20 tonnes – was originally designed to go into battle in support of lighter anti tank , or machine gun armed tanks. It was armed with a 75mm gun and two machine guns, one in the turret beside the 75mm and the other in the front hull.

The PanzerIV did stout service in Poland and France , but in Russia meets its match in the soviet T-34.The German tanks excellent basic design, however meant that it could be updated to meet this challenge.Later versions were given much more powerfull long barrield 75mm guns , and the armour plateting was considerably toughened- to a thickness of 80mm in some parts. Thus equipped the Panzer IV became in its turn an effective anti tank, the only German one able to hold its own against Allied counterparts .Later Panzers IV had a crew of 5 , a speed of upto 25 MPH and a range of 130 Miles.
